Nelspruit - Two Mpumalanga farm attackers have been jailed for a total of 42 years by the Nelspruit regional court.

Randy Mbuyisa, 25 and Wiseman Nkambule, 23, of Mjindini in Barberton, attacked two farms in the Barberton area on February 17 2003 and March 9 2003.

They pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated robbery, pointing a firearm, assault, attempted murder and theft of a motor vehicle.

On the first farm, Rouxville, they pistol-whipped Johannes Kriel into submission and then stole a car, a firearm, cellphone, clothes and appliances to the value of R7 210.

They also stabbed Andre du Plessis and stole a cellphone and R1 000 in cash.

On the second farm, Esperado Valley, they beat up owner Robert Butler, held up him up at gunpoint and stole a 9mm pistol, a pump-action shotgun and goods worth about R8 000.

They were arrested on March 27 2003.

In court on Tuesday, Magistrate Andre Geldenhuys acquitted a third man, and Michael Zulu, 21, of the charges because there wasn't enough evidence against him.

But he found Mbuyisa and Nkambule guilty and said they had behaved "like animals".

"People no longer feel safe in their own houses because of people like you," he said.

He sentenced Mbuyisa and Nkambule to 15 years each for aggravated robbery and five years each for attempted murder.

Mbuyisa was sentenced to an additional two years for possession of stolen property.
