An elderly Hertzogville farmer has been assaulted and robbed in the third attack on him in five years, Free State police said on Friday.

Fanie du Toit, 76, was attacked in the kitchen of his farm, Garinglaagte, by two men - one of them possibly armed, said Inspector Harry Nagel.

He sustained a cut to his head and was taken to his doctor for treatment, he said.

His assailants fled on foot. It was not known what was taken, said Nagel.

Nagel said Du Toit lived alone on the farm. The first time he was attacked, two people were arrested, but there were no arrests the second time.

The police were still looking for the robbers.

A docket of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm had been opened. - Sapa
