January 09 2007 at 08:47PM

A KwaZulu-Natal farm manager was beaten to death by an angry mob during an argument over land-ownership near Melmoth, north-east of Durban, on Tuesday morning, said police.

Kenneth Lionel Eva, 47, was attacked by 250 members of the eSibhonsweni community when he fired a shot into the air during an argument over ownership of the New Venture farm, which he managed, said police and the KwaZulu Regional Christian Council (KRCC).

"They attacked him with knobkerries and sticks... He died on the spot," said Captain Vusi Mbatha. Eva's vehicle was burnt out.

Nobody else was hurt. The exact circumstances of the incident were still unclear, said Mbatha.

No arrests had been made and the police were investigating a case of murder. - Sapa
