79-year-old Afrikaner farmer Jan Voster, 'chopped to shreds by panga'

NELSPRUIT. Nov 22 2007 - Beeld reports: 79-year-old Afrikaner retired farmer Jan Voster of Nelspruit was "chopped to shreds by panga-wielding black attackers on Nov 22 2007.

It took surgeons at Nelspruit's Medi-Clinic three hours to repair his severed arteries after Jan and Hannetjie Voster (75) were attacked inside their Nelspruit farm house. He requires more surgery but now has to strengthen up before surgeons will try to repair the rest of the damage to his shredded body.

Nothing was robbed by the two armed men who had invaded the homestead belonging to the old Afrikaner couple. It's not known how many attackers were involved. Police are investigating.

Security guards who responded to the panic alarm within minutes said "Mr Voster was chopped so badly that practically nothing on his body was left intact.' His son in law who was there within six minutes from his home in nearby Alkmaar said, "It was a terrible sight".

The extreme ferocity of such attacks targetting Afrikaner farmers has been a feature of the 'farm-attack phenomenon" in SA. More than 2,300 Afrikaner farmers have already been murdered in this "Uhuru" manner since 1991-2.

Nelspruit police inspector Dawie Pretorius is investigating.
