A Kilner Park resident was shot dead execution-style in what appears to be a robbery at his Kastaiing Street home. At about 3am on Saturday Johannes Koekemoer (60) was shot once in the back of the head and died at the scene.
The man's wife was baking rusks in the kitchen when three armed suspects climbed through a window and surprised her.
Police spokesperson Inspector Malose Mashiane said said the suspects entered the bedroom and held down Koekemoer's wife, also aged 60.
"One of the suspects used a 9mm pistol and shot the husband once in the head.
"At the scene we recovered a 9mm casing and the projectile. Nothing was stolen from the house and the suspects fled on foot along the nearby railway line," he said.
Mashiane said they were investigating cases of house robbery and murder. No arrests have been made.
