Police are hunting for two men who attacked two elderly Durbanville residents with bricks, leaving one dead and another in hospital.
The two men approached the 71-year-old woman on Tuesday while she was feeding her dogs.
After assaulting her, the pair left her lying outside and entered the house.
Inside they found 70-year-old James Travis lying in bed.
"They allegedly also assaulted him with bricks and he died," said police spokesperson Superintendent Billy Jones.
Jones said it appeared only small items, such as jewellery and money, had been taken.
The woman was taken to hospital where her condition is stable.
The police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
