Johannesburg - A man was shot dead after a robbery at his home in Gravelotte by four armed men, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

Superintendent Ronel Otto said Paul Meyer was killed on Tuesday by unidentified men who took his two cars and abducted his family from his Selati farm.

"After gaining entry into the house the men took firearms, car keys and cash from the house. They then forced the Meyer family into their cars before driving away with them," said Otto. During the getaway, Meyer was shot twice in the head after he tried to fight off the robbers.

"His body was dumped next to the gravel road. His family was released unharmed and they were found by motorists a few kilometres away from the scene," she said.

Police are looking for a white Toyota Bakkie with registration number BKC819L and a white Toyota Double Cab with the registration number BDR316L.

Police are investigating a case of murder and armed robbery.
