A 68-year-old man was stabbed to death by two men in his home in Redhouse in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
Inspector Dumile Gwavu said Pieter William van der Poel's 65-year-old wife was awoken by a noise in their house in Topaz street around 2.45am on Sunday.
She discovered that Van der Poel was struggling with two men in the passage - one of them was struggling with him while the other repeatedly stabbed him.
The woman went to fetch a firearm and returned to find that the two men had fled.
She asked her husband where the two men were and was told that they had jumped out of a first floor window.
The men had used a ladder to reach the window through which they had gained entry.
Van der Poel collapsed and died before paramedics arrived.
He had sustained stab wounds to his chest, back, left arm and right arm and had bled profusely.
A case of house robbery and murder would be investigated, said Gwavu. - Sapa
