Armed robbers shot and killed a Robertson businessman while he was on holiday with his wife and friends at his holiday home near the Kruger National Park.

Property owner and agent Rudolph Harris, 50, and his wife, Susan, were at their holiday home at Marloth Park on the banks of the Crocodile River in Mpumalanga when the robbers struck, said his eldest son, Eldrid.

"It was about 9pm on Friday and they were just about ready to eat at a braai they were having with friends, when four men jumped over the lapa's fence," he said.

"... my father grabbed one of the men who was carrying what was believed to be an AK47 and started wrestling with him.

"A fifth man them jumped over the lapa fence, took a pistol from the guy with whom my father was wrestling and shot my father through the chest." Harris said his father died within seconds of the shot.
