Fed-up residents of Newlands East, Durban, on Tuesday night threatened to take the law into their own hands after the murder of a local resident.
Michael Steinbank was shot during an attempted hijacking outside a relative's home. The hijackers, however, failed to take his car.
The gunman fled in a metallic blue Sentra.
Local councillor Colin Gaillard said he is concerned because the community is infuriated and wants to act.
In a separate incident, a Durban man is in a critical condition after he was shot during an attempted hijacking Tuesday afternoon near a Durban informal settlement.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot and critically wounded on Kennedy Road.
Police said investigations revealed the man had been approached by his attackers and when he realised something was amiss, he tried to start his bakkie in an attempt to drive off.
